We will be fishing Minersville Reservoir just a short drive west of Beaver, Utah and/or the Beaver River.
Target Species: Rainbow and brown trout.
Drive time: 3 hrs., 209 miles.
Level of fishing difficulty: Moderate to easy. 4 wt. 8.5' or 9' rod works well for the river, as do Tenkara rods. Five or 6 wt. rods are better for the reservoir and for throwing streamers and other heavy rigs. In the river last year nymphs and small dries worked. Suspect balanced leaches and chironomid patterns to work in reservoir, together with streamer leaches.
Access: Paved road to most access points, with small amount of dirt road to access riverbank and reservoir in some areas. Lots of pull-outs and parking spots along both the river and the reservoir.
Accommodations: Lots of motels in Beaver which are very close to accessing both the reservoir and the river. There are also a number of campgrounds in and around Beaver. Most, if not all, campgrounds in the mountains along the Beaver River and lakes west of Beaver will not be open yet.
Weather: 5,900'. The town of Beaver is relatively high, so expect cooler temperatures than SLC, especially if fishing the Beaver River west of town.
Terrian: Normal public access along river and reservoir.
Wading difficulty: Easy in reservoir but locally muddy bottom especially near the main campground on the southeast end of the reservoir. Wading is relatively easy along the Beaver River, though silty banks and river bottom is common, together with local brushy spots and fallen timber. May be snowing along banks of river in the canyon.
License: Utah Fishing license is all that is required.
